I am upright the whole time I do laps.

It seems strenuous, and my heart beats but I'm not sure if I'm just wasting my time.

This pool is like 30 yrds and i can walk the whole length.

Hotel-ish size

  1. .....What you are doing is essentially water aerobics used even by professional sprinters, race horses, etc. In addition to running in the water, you could also do exercises for the waist/hips by holding the pool-deck with your arms and swinging your legs left and right, slowly and gradually increasing the speed, as you get better. Cheers!

  2. walking/runnig in a pool is a good form of exercise because of the added resistance provided by the water, your muscles need to work harder to move through the water. and its not abnormal for your heart to beat, I'd start to worry if it didn't. If your heart rate is up while you're exercising that's good, it means your giving your cardiovascular system a work out. Most exercise done in water is a good cardio workout.
