  1. Firstly, it is normal for a hamster to sleep under a water bottle but not normal to get her fur damp. Hamsters are desert rodents and you would note that they immaculately groom and dry themselves even if a tiny drop of water falls on their fur. They just do not like any dampness in their fur.

So if your hamster is sleeping under the water bottle with the water dripping on her, it points to some problem with her or her habitat. Just to make doubly sure, check that she is otherwise fine in terms of eating and popping properly & is normal, active and not lethargic. If not, it might point to some sickness. Also check if the room is too hot, if so, shift the cage to a cooler area so that she does not feel stifled by the heat.

Secondly fix the leaking water bottle immediately. Most bottles can be set right simply by just tilting them a bit to a slight angle to stop the leak, if that does not work, then you need to get a non leaking water bottle from the nearest pet shop.

This would not stop your hamster from sleeping under the bottle, maybe she has taken a fancy to that area, but it would definitely help you relax since you can be sure that when your hamster sleeps, she is not getting her fur damp and making herself susceptible to a cold or a flu.

  2. My hamster does the exact same thing but the water bottle doesn't drip, I don't think it matters. If she gets too wet she wouldn't sleep there.

Also maybe the room is a little too hot, try opening a window and see if that makes a difference.

  3. No, this is not good. This is exactly like what happens when their bedding is wet. They become ill from this.

It sounds like you do not have the correct type of sippy bottle. If I'm not mistaking, I think they're called "Double balled" bottles. Something like that. You can buy certain types of bottles which do not drip.

This also sounds like she needs it to be a little cooler, so she enjoys the water dripping on her. This still isn't good. Either make it a little cooler in your house, or you can put some damp, but not dripping paper towls above her cage.

This will cool her off. Try and make sure that the water bottle is not dripping on her, because a wet hamster can lead to an ill hamster.

    Good luck,
