I know they are rare to come by nowadays, I don't which law it is, But I know were not allowed to keep them as pets or kill them. And it's a symbol I think for an martial artist technique(not really sure), But anyhows, I was cleaning up junk at the scrapyard and came across one under a tire. It was in a back field, its like a desert and there were big freaking eagles that dive down and picks up rabbits, snakes and rats from the yard(scrapyard is huge). Well, at the end of the field there was a forest. I carried the pray-mantis to the forests edge and watch it hide among the tall grass and bushes. I think it was a male pray-mantis(was rather small from the one I seen before and remember hearing that male pray-mantis's are much smaller than female pray-mantises.

Went kinda overboard, but yeah, is saving a pray-mantis good luck or something along that line..?

  1. I suppose when it comes to Karma it would be, but I dont know if theres any superstition involved with a praying mantis

  2. I don't know about good luck, but it's definitely a good thing.

  3. Well it's not bad luck.

  4. there are heaps of them here in oz, they are just another type of bug. no religious significance at all.

  5. They're actually called PREYING mantises (As in hunting)

And I've never heard of them being good luck ( But they are fascinating)

  6. Good luck no, but it's awesome.

  7. Absolutely, every  time I find one and let it go free I always get unexpected run of good luck.

  8. A praying mantis is just a myth there is no sort of thing that can bring luck but God can bring untold blessings

  9. I don't believe you can get good luck from saving a praying mantis, but I thank you for saving it. You did a good thing, and I would have done the same for it.

EDIT: I don't think scientists call it the preying mantis, this might just be a misspelling. In fact, the scientific name for the European mantis is Mantis religiosa. It was given the name "religiosa" because it looks like it is praying, and "Mantis" refers to fortune tellers and prophets in ancient Greece. Scientists are not necessarily anti-religion.

Another EDIT: Biologists are a type of scientist. Scientists can be physicists, chemists, anthropologists, psychologists, astronomers, or researchers in other fields. It is wrong to say that "biologist" means the same thing as "scientist".
