  1. First of all. No Nikon SLR has in body stabilization

that comes with the lens you attach.

so, any Nikon SLR you buy doesn't have VR

You Have To Buy A VR lens..

Nikon SLR's Don't Have VR, Nikkor Lenses Do.

  2. Absolutely.

Both Canon & Nikon, the industry leaders in professional DSLR's have chosen to put their stabilization in the lenses, where it works best.

  3. Image stabilization is just another tool.

I have been shooting for over 30 years and until about six months ago did not own a VR lens.  While there are times having it can assure images shot in low light are tack sharp, I still prefer lenses without VR ... There is a small amount of shutter lag introduced when using a VR lens (while the lens corrects for any movement.

I shoot a lot of sports and fashion ... timing the shot with only 45 milliseconds of lag is one thing, but dealing with lag that can be nearly half a second, can be the difference between getting the shot or just missing it.
