Is it good to buy the collision insurance offered with a car rental or a waste of money?

Ask your own auto insurance company if they cover rental cars, this can be added on to your policy. Gold Cards usually offer some auto insurance coverage if you use them to rent the car, otherwise you need collision insurance unless you want to be 100% responsible for any damages.

Waste of money if you already have collision coverage on your current insurance policy.  If you have collision coverage on your policy, then that would take care of any incidents you would have with the rental car.

The premium for that coverage is outrageous.  Visa credit cards provide the coverage at no charge, automatically.

Check with your credit card as some of them provide good coverage.
