  1. Exchanging links never hurts no matter what type of website it is. But if you are going to spend time exchanging links, it's better to do it with other travel websites. I would look for websites that deal with backpackers, adventure websites, island websites, plane ticket websites, and cruise ship/freight websites. If you have alot of time, it doesnt hurt to exchange links with clothes business and goods websites, but your time is better spent by exchanging with websites that have services that match yours or can be associated with yours because those are the people that are more likely to convert to a sale or stay on your site.

  2. Link building with relevant websites are far more effective. Its better to have one way linking than reciprocal links.

  3. Hi

Please do not exchange links with irrelevant web sites. Make sure that you are doing link exchange with the web sites that they are almost same type of business.

    Good Luck

  4. Excessive link exchanges make you look like a spammer to Google and you will never rank for anything that brings real traffic to your website. One of the clues that a website is excessively linking is sites that link to non-relevant websites with a return link.

Stay in your niche. don't risk it.

  5. No, it is not.

  6. Sorry, I beg to differ.  You can hurt yourself.

    From Google Guidelines:

"Don't participate in link schemes designed to increase your site's ranking or PageRank. In particular, avoid links to web spammers or "bad neighborhoods" on the web, as your own ranking may be affected adversely by those links."

In general, link exchanges with irrelevant websites has such a small effect it's not worth the effort.  Haven't been since 2000-2001.

Time is better spent creating remarkable stuff that people want to link to, as one-way links from relevant websites are many times more important.
