My little brothers name is Zakaria,but a lot of his friends call him

"Zak."

  1. Most people call me by nickname aswell, it's been such a long time since they called me by my full name. I don't think it's haraam, it's just a nickname. And my name doesn't have any sort of Islamic meaning to it either. But I think it's better to call the person by their full name...


  2. i think it is okay but the name Abdirahman being changed to abdi is bad because abdi means servant and rahman is one of the 99 names of allah and changing it snt goo but i have a cousin that i call zak and i cuz named yahye but call him yahya

  14. Umm...well i think no, but i've heard some people go ballistic about nick names before.  

  15. The Prophet(SAW) said Muslim's should avoid this sort of habit in nick names.

    As for instance, Ebrahim is turned into Ibu, Yusuf into Isop, Mohammad into Mamad or Mo, etcetera...

    By shortening Muslims names or choosing nicknames falls within the category of proclaiming defect in their full given good Muslim origin name!

    Arabic name Zakariyyaa (Zacharias) is a biblical name.
