Basically i am nearly 18 and i really want to live and work in America for a while. When i am ready to move over to the US i will have 4 A-Levels which is the highest education apart from University. I just wanted to know what the US attitude towards non graduates is. Would it be really hard to get a job or is it more like the UK in that they prefer younger non graduate students that can learn from experience?

Thanks

  1. You will not be able to get a job legally without a work permit and A levels are not sufficient for a work permit in the US.

  2. I live in California. If you're not a graduate and you want more than minimum wage (currently $8/hour) I doubt you can pull it off... I'm 19 and lived here all my life and can't seem to pull it off. If you're thinking about any other state living costs will definitely be cheaper, but minimum wage will be waaaaaaay lower too.

    best of luck though!

  3. A levels loll, unless your have an A **************************************

They are worth nothing other than stats for new labour.

Edit - but Jimmy good luck, there are ways check out the sites & green card things.

  4. I think you can find odd jobs easy, dont know about jobs pertaining to your career though

  5. It depends on what field you're in. If it's a field that has a high turnover, your chances are good. If it's a field with a flooded market, your chances are less good. Some corporations will hire you on a probationary basis and if they like your work, they will actually assist you with your education so you become an asset to the company. The key to success in America is working hard and showing up when you're supposed to be there.

  6. No, you don't need to be a graduate. You will need a work visa. If you have college experience you have more chance of getting a good job obviously.

  7. you can get a job waiting tables and such, but it is difficult to get a decent "office" job without a degree.

  8. Well without a college degree the best job you would be able to get is at a fast food place, or at a restraunt waiting table. Almost no business is going to hire you if you don't have a college degree. And even with a college degree, its hard for alot of people to get jobs, depending what part of the country you go to. good luck with that btw. :)

  9. it really doesn't matter if your a graduate. you'll probably be able to do some pretty straight forward jobs.

  10. To get a visa to work in the US you need to have a good degree or masters and experience in your field. No company here would be allowed to sponsor you unless they could prove they couldn't find an American with the qualifications and skills to do the job. Your A Levels wouldn't count for anything here, even if you could come here legally another way employers here wouldn't accept them as proof you had finished high school.
