Question:

Is it hard learning how to play the guitar?

I'm turning 12 in a few weeks and I suddenly really really want to learn how to play the guitar

So, how long does it take to learn, and as the question says, is it really hard? Do I really need lessons, or is it too hard to self-teach yourself the guitar?

I play both the violin and the piano, so will that make it easier for me? Any tips? Good guitars for beginners? Good books for the music? Anything else?

  1. hmm, well that depends on you, and your grasp of the concept of guitar. i played violin for 4 years, and i still found it extremely difficult to self teach. i go to private lessons now and am very happy with it, because i love have someone there to tell me what i'm doing wrong, and the i wouldn't have to learn how to play it wrong. but that's just me, i'm really codependant. :P

my advice is get a workbook on self teaching guitar or find some kind of video or something, and see if you find it easy to learn on your own. if not, try asking to go to private lessons, because it really is worth it.

good luck with your guitar learning!

  2. well playing guitar its really not so hard the only think is u need to practice and practice and practice, and also its will be better and faster to take lessons but u can do it by your self

PD: playing piano and violin will absoultely help you

  3. i play the piano so my hands know how to move fast

in school we learned how to play the guitar and it wasnt

hard it was easy and fun but it gets harder once you start

the electric guitar but its not hard

  4. It should be easier to learn since you have musical experience. You might need lessons depending how smart you are.... :D

  5. OK.

first of all, i really hate to disappoint you, but this question can't really be answered and anyone that tries to give you a specific amount of time isn't exactly intelligent.

learning to play takes a lot of time and since you already play other instruments it may very well come to you more naturally, however, that might make it more difficult since you already play those instruments. are you getting all of this?

it is difficult, but whether or not you need lessons depends on you and you alone. no one learns at the same pace and there is no guarantee that you will be able to teach yourself, there's not even a guarantee that you will play well if you take lessons.

so, although my answer did not really answer your question, i hope my little bit of "wisdom" was helpful to you.
