  1. Its not a problem because they use anaesthetic eye drops to numb the eye and insert a speculum to keep the eye open.

You can see a video of exactly what is involved if you want to know what happens during the procedure.

  2. The doctor puts a numbing solution in your eye and your eye lids are held open with tape. It's quick, easy and painless. Blinking was something I worried about also, but it's no problem. The actual laser on your eye is very brief. The worst part is after the surgery your eyes feel kind of gravely, like you have something in them, and you can't rub them at all. My doctor told me to go home and take a nap, so that's what I did. When I woke up from my nap my eyes were fine, no longer gravely feeling and OMG I could see. It was incredible.

  3. They use a lid speculum to hold your eye open during the surgery.  You do feel a little pressure, but no pain.  They use numbing drops to prevent that.
