  1. Many school districts today are reluctant to hire someone just to teach PE. Usually they want you to be able to teach another core subject (math, science, English, history) as well. However, if you love sports and think you might like working with kids in the future, then I would go for it. I teach English, and I know I could never teach PE or athletics. Kids need teachers who love what they teach! That being said, if you have another subject you like as well, try being certified in both so you will have no problems finding a job.

  2. Yes, it is somewhat difficult to be a PE teacher.  But, if you are willing to work in areas that other teachers avoid, such as inner cities and poor rural areas you may find it easier to find employment.

You could get a double major.  Is there another subject you like?  You could couple your PE degree with Math or Science (as those degrees overlap somewhat, especially the developmental and biological sciences)- this increases your chances for employment.  Also- consider going for a PHD and teaching at the college level.

  3. It's difficult for several reasons.  First, at your school, count up all the elementary teachers... now count up all the junior high teachers... now count all the high school teachers... now, how many PE teachers are in the whole district? So there are not as many PE positions available as those who teach elementary school.  Second, you'll need four or five years of college to be a PE teacher... no easy task.  Third, you won't be paid what most college graduates will earn because of your chosen profession.  I want you to know that anything worthwhile to do is NOT "easy to get into."
