Is it hard to find a good school to get captains licence in st thomas?

thinking about moving to usvi. want to get captains licence to sail boats for tourist co.

Is this a decent paying job to survive in st. thomas?

  1. Your best bet is to go to St. Petersburg, FL to SeaSchool.  You can get a 6 pack in a week-end there and the course is not all that expensive.  Besides that, your license will be held at MSO Miami, so you can easily get there for whatever you may need to do later.

    You are going to have a lot of competition for a job, though, because there a lot of people who hold licenses and have a lot of experience looking for work.

    I live on my boat in Antigua and I have a 100 Ton with Aux. Sail and over 10,000 sea miles and every once in a time I need to pick up a few dollars... Lately I have been competing with guys who have 1600 ton to unlimited licenses for those same jobs... so just be aware, it's a tough job market for captains... and 6 pack licenses are the bottom of the food chain.
