  1. Over here we get a provisional licence first (like a learner's permit) & that's easy to get, you just take a theory test. After that you apply for a driver's test & that takes forever so most young people (18-25) just have provisional licences

  2. 3 steps to getting a drivers licence.

    1. Do your theory test. (when you're at least 16)

    2. Apply for your provisional licence.  (when you're at least 16)

    3. Do your driving test. (when you're at least 17)

    1. The theory test examines you on all aspects of road safety and signs. You get asked 40 questions and you have to answer 35 of them correctly. All questions are multible choice.

    2. If you pass your theory test you can apply for your provisional licence. To do this you send away your theory test certificate, two signed passport photos and other documents which are easily found on the internet.

    3. After you have your provisional licence you can legally drive (under certain restrictions). If you have held your provisional licence for 6 months you can then apply to sit your driving test. If you pass this you become a full, legal driver.

    Hope that helps.

  3. Well getting a licence isn't but getting a driving test is.

  4. 10 million times harder to pass the test than in the States.  A lot of things that you don't have to do in the States are included in the test. If you do the test in an automatic you have an endorsed license & are only allowed to drive automatics. Also takes a lot longer to get an appointment for the test. Written tests & proacticals are quite hard but it means that you are quite competant if you pass. You can expedite your appointment for a test if you can get your employer to write a letter saying driving is necessary for you to do your job.
