Me and my husband are taking a cruise to the bahamas. Will it be hard for him to get a passport. He has a felony but it was deferred so it shouldn't be on his record.

  1. I wouldn't think so, especially if the deferment was a long time ago, or at least outside the time line.  If it was deferred for 5 years - last year - than it's still an open case until the 5 years have been completed without any violations.

As long as it was a while ago, it shouldn't be a problem.  But you'll want to do it well ahead of time just in case.

Edit:  actually they don't HAVE to give you a passport.  i have a friend that was denied a passport because his family name is a well known crime family name (not related to my friend) and they did deny him a passport.  Not right, and if he had any real interest, I'm sure he could fight it - but the gov't has no problem denying passports when they deam necessary.

  2. It is very easy to get a passport.  It just takes a while.  You can go online here to get the application and check the criteria:

    http://travel.state.gov/passport/passpor...

As far as your husband's felony you will have to list it in the application.  IF you provide any false information it will prevent him from getting a passport.  Some felony's will prevent passport issuance and others still can obtain a passport.  Submit the application and let the government do the rest.  It will take up to 12 weeks to process.

IF the cruise destination is a U.S. providence (Virgin Islands, etc.) then passports are not required.

Check the above website as it has all the information you need.

  3. No it should not be a problem. There are some great services on-line. You can get it as fast as 24 hours (for a fee). This is a great site my family and I have used in the past. http://bit.ly/2e8j5S

  4. It's easy, as long as you are both American citizens. Just bring a photo ID (e.g., driver's license) and a birth certificate.

If Bill Clinton and Al Gore can get passports, your husband certainly should be able to!!    ;-)     ;-)

Seriously, it's just a travel document that the Government MUST issue to you if you are a U.S. citizen. Agai, as long as you bring the proper documentation, they HAVE TO give you a passport.

  5. In the US, you need to be a citizen, have a certified copy of your birth certificate, a valid ID (driver license) and completed DS-12.  You can go online to get the form and locations of acceptance agents you can apply to.  The website is Travel.State.Gov..  A felony will not keep you from getting a passport, being behind in child support or owing IRS, will.
