  2. You have to have a skill a host country has asked for. 92% of all PCVs have a college degree. The other 8% have 10 - 50 years of experience in something a host country has asked for. You have to be a US citizen. If you are married, your spouse has to stay home for 27 months OR be accepted as a PCV as well. He/She can't go along just to cook and clean for you.

    They take one applicant in four. "Hard" is relative.

    If you just graduated from high school and really want to help less developed countries, (plus travel) but don't have any particular skills, your chances are nil.

    If you are a high school math teacher with no spouse, no dependents, no debts, fluent in Spanish or French, who held volunteer positions in different places since the 8th grade, you'll get in so fast it will make your head spin.
