  1. well i dont know because im dominican and its great to live in the best country of the world d.r. well 2 me it is hahaha

  2. Stay in the US, what happens in your country reflects worse in ours, minimum wage here is about to change to $7.25/hr I think next month. Do you speak Spanish?, Many of us don't speak English, just Spanish, unless you land a job in the touristic areas of San Juan. Utilities here are way more expensive than in the US, gas prices are a little bit cheaper than in the US, but housing is very expensive in the San Juan area because its overpopulated, and there's little space. Traffic is terrible, the roads are nasty, and we drive like lunatics. Overall this is a very scrambled little island in terms of daily life, people live under a lot of stress, many people have lost their jobs thanks to the past oil crisis and high cost of living in the island. Everything here is imported, an therefore expensive. Plus the government here is just terrible. If you expect a "state" like place in PR you'll be disappointed, we're very disorganized and don't follow instructions at all, its just culture. Other than that, I have lived here my entire life and I love it, because I'm used to it, and because PR is drop  dead beautiful, the beaches, the people, the culture, the food. We are not like in the states at all, its is very different, just keep that in mind.

  3. hey whats up i tryed to move to pr and i can tell you it is d**n hard but dont let me get your hopes down i had the same experance as you do also. if you dont speak spanish 100 you cant work in a hotel or as a waiter in a resaurant so there goes the best opportunity for money......my idea was they have to be looking for english speakers in the hotels the problem is the puerto ricans in san juan all speak english and spanish so why would they higher just an english speaker..

i thoguht i could learn sapnish while i work but i needed spanish to get a good job the empolyers told me learn spanish and come see me..im like ok bye bye savings account living with out working yeah right!!! so i had to come home but i could of had dishwasher jobs in a small restraunt but i would have made 400 a mouth that sucks its real expensive to live in san juan but if you live anywhere else you need to have a car!! even in san juan you need a car and you need alot of money !!

good luck i hope it works out for you better than it did for me

  4. My recommendation is complete your post-secondary education (college or vocational training) and apply for job there or get a job in the main land where the company can give you an assignment there.  It also helps to speak and WRITE in Spanish.

  5. its hard living anywhere in this world at this point. PR its hard to live, but living in a vacationing island its worth it!

  6. Ok, here is my experience from moving from Chicago to PR in August of 2007.  Well I don't really speak Spanish, I understand, don't really right it that well either.  I have a job, but I got lucky there, but I am not really getting paid much, its more an internship, but I wanted it sooo bad and I LOVE what I do..lol.  But I know there are hotels that are looking for ppl who only speak English so that is not a requirement.  What matters here more is that you have your Diploma or GED.  College and experience is great.  I love living here, I really think it is easier living here than in the USA.  My husband has not worked since April.  If I lived in Chicago right now in this same situation I would be out on the streets with my two kids and things would be HORRIBLE.

I have found that the best site for information about apartments and jobs is www.clasificadosonline.com.  Rent prices vary from area to area.  I live more in the country but I am like 30 to 40 mins from San Juan and I pay $300 for a 3 bedroom house.  The one thing I think is a most in PR is a car.

My personal opinion it is easier to live over here in Puerto Rico.
