I know this question is a little silly, but I've always dreamed of folowing my dreams and play one day in the MLB. Also my brother who might make it, he plays college baseball in a D-1 school and he's good. I'm 14 and I work on running, throwing, and especially batting everysingle day! I'm already goin to try-out for baseball for my HS, eventhouth it's my first time playing for a team.

How hard is it to make it to the MLB? And how can I folow my dreams? I'm also not that tall I'm 5'5 and might turn out to be 5'10 or 5'9 when I'm 18 and my brother says college scouts are picky about size.

  1. you have as good a shot as anyone, but yes it definitely is difficult, only the best of the best make it to the majors,so they say,but if you work hard and practice often you will continue to develop into a better and better player,so its possible, good luck wit it

  2. Making the MLB is really hard. Scouts are really picky about size. They want kids to be big and strong. Scouts mainly look for those two things. Its really hard if you dont stand out and even then you dont have a great chance at making it to the major leagues. Good luck kid but its really hard.

  3. Considering only 750 players are on major league rosters out of the  millions of people who play baseball, the odds are astronomically stacked against you. Plus, you got a late start too. But hey, you never know, so give it your best shot. As far as size goes, it only works against you if you're a pitcher. Look up and down the rosters of major league teams and you'll see very, very few pitchers who are under 6 feet tall. It has to do with the downward slope of pitches from taller pitchers making a ball harder to hit.

  4. Not really sure, I would guess it's easy just play hard into College and say something to make you more noticed. My Grandpa was playing Double A for the Cardinals and he was their top prospect that year (Pitcher) He made his Major League debut for 1 inning (His name is Don Miles I don't know if you'll find anything on him) He was on his way to the Triple A and than he made the decision to have a Family and not play Baseball..which I later came in as a cause of his choice :D

And than there's me I was playing at Southern Illinois and was selected to play for the Cubs Minors I turned it down because I didn't really want to play Baseball anymore (Yea call me stupid)

  5. out of all the sports baseball is the easiest to get drafted due to the number of teams and the farms systems

but on the flipside baseballl is also the hardest to get onto the big time and the major league team.

  6. it's like a 50000 to 1 shot!!!

It may actually be worse odds than that.

  7. It is very difficult to make it to the MLB. First you have to make it professionally and very few make that and about 1 of 11 of those make it to the MLB. Then a lot of MLB players jump back and forth between the minors and big leagues.

  8. UMM, let me see, YES!!

  9. Making the MLB is a piece of cake! Seriously, it is super hard! First of all, your brother might want to rethink a bit. Scouts are not that picky on size. Chris Cates, one of the Top Prospects for the Twins, is 5'3. A lot of players are 5'9 or 5'10, don;t worry about size!

The only way to follow your dreams and make it is to practice. Go to batting cages, field baseballs, and run for endurance.

But keep in mind, that it is hard to get drafted. You need to be the best on the high school team, and demonstrate leadership. And once you're drafted, you have to move up through the minors with the best. Only 10% of the players make it to the bigs. Keep working hard, it might happen, but there needs to be some reality to it, so I am not trying to scare you, but trying to make you work for it.

  10. im going to guess its pretty hard do some research but good luck !!

  11. It is very hard.  Just image all the kids playing Little League, Pony or Babe Ruth leagues, Legion ball, high school ball, college ball, semi pro, all the minor leagues (rookie, A, AA, AAA) and independent leagues, Mexican ball, Japan, etc.

Got it? Now, there are 30 teams with 25 players each.  That's 750 players in the whole world.  If your break it down by position, its even harder.  Ex. most teams carry 2 catchers.  That's only 60 players; 11-12 pitchers - 330 to 360 players.

So you see, only the very best make it to the major leagues.

  12. ok so its ur first time playing for ur team so u never noe how it feels like to play in a real game now i like dat ur practicing everyday i play in triple A nd i got called up once to da majors but didnt play u just gotta do best in da team u r now nd not worry on mlb until college or senior year

  13. oh yes it is very hard. but, don't let that keep you from accomplishing your goal. for me i was a very talented baseball player, especially at catcher. i never ever had a college scholarship presented to me because i never worked HARD ENOUGH and didn't focus on baseball. if i did my life would be different right now. the thing you have to do is PUT YOUR MIND TO BASEBALL and just keep going and going at it, don't EVER GIVE UP! you will be rewarded for the hard work you do and everything will change, eventually. bottom line is work as hard as you can to achieve your dream, don't give up, keep your head focused on baseball and you will get where you want to be! best of luck to you my friend.
