  1. No

  2. sumtimes. but put your finger on it and spin it and if it doesn't feel rough then don't worry about it. just don't throw away the old one. and they make special tools that make taking them out easier.

  3. no, you can use a puller to remove the old one and a soft faced hammer and skill to install the new.

  4. It isn't hard at all. Everyone who answered you pretty much got it right. Renting the tool, or buying it is the best way to do it. It basically pulls it out straight in just a matter of minutes.

Installing the new one requires some diligence. You must get it straight and you must do so with out damaging the race. If you damage the race, your new pilot bearing will become little bitty pieces within a matter of a few seconds after the transmission is installed. And it makes a very ugly sound when the care is running with a failed pilot bearing.

If you don't have the right driver, I recommend using a socket that just fits the outside edge of the bearing race and tap it in lightly. Take all the time you need to do it right. You do NOT want to damage the new bearing

  5. not really! just take a piece of 2x2 and a rubber hammer and pound it in, but make sure you get it straight. you can change it without taking the flywheel off, it,s in the crank.

  6. No it isn't hard. Depending on the car, you might need to rent a tool from a parts store to remove the old pilot bushing.

  7. Not a bit hard.  You don't actually need to take the flywheel off.  That's not in the way.

  8. Sometimes they can make you think theres no way to get it out. Autozone rents a tool that will make it go easier. If you go with the slide hammer method you usually pull out the bearing inner then the outer because they break coming out. I always change them whenever I do a clutch job. Its better to fight it now when the trans is out then to have to remove the trans again after your done.
