  1. how have you been to drill without even having a ship date?if youve been to MEPS and sworn in you are in DEP but I heard all you have to do is call up the commandant of your local MEPS office and tell them you would like to be discharged from DEP.they dont like it, but apparently they are legally obligated to do it.

  2. Nat'l Guard doesn't DEP, when you swear in, you're in.  To switch to the Coast Guard you would need a Conditional Release from your Chain of Command.  If you talk to them and they agree, then you should call a CG Recruiter to see if you qualify.

  3. I'm really surprised that your recruiter did not mention to you that the National Guard is not generally full time.  There are some full time jobs available, but not many.

Your best bet would be to go into an active service.  I'm pretty sure if you haven't shipped yet, you should be able to switch over very easily.  I would contact a Coast Guard recruiter and ask.  You didn't mention if you were currently Army or Air National Guard, but it might be the easiest to switch over to that active service, but if you're set on the Coast Guard, check there first.
