  1. Yes, they are high maintenance.  Stall mucking at least once or twice a day, feeding twice a day, grooming at least a couple times a week if you aren't riding the horse (every day if you are riding every day) farrier every 4 weeks or so, vet out once a year for routine stuff, and more often for injuries/illnesses.  In colder climates, blanketing in winter.  Applying fly repellants, hoof conditioners, etc.  They are very expensive to keep and, as far an animals go, quite high maintenance.

  2. yes. Taking care of any animal requires work, but especially a BIG one!

    and its very expensive!

  3. i find it easy even with two mares in foal since the are about six weeks away i look after a Arab stud and help my friends with there horses if you love horses it is not hard.

  4. Yes it is hard! It requires alot of time and money to keep a healthy horse, let alone 3!! But it's all worth it in the end when you end up with a best friend.

  5. There is also a saying here in holland that states : I've you buy a horse you're buying a veterinarian as well.

You will need them a lot and being able to affort them.

  6. if thats all the effort you can muster for a question, then yes, you will find it very hard.

  7. yes but its fun they r very expensive and if it's to skinny you have to feed it heaps you have to ride them regulary and they can be very nervous and get scarred alot or they can bite or kick.and you have to show them whos boss or the'll boss you. farrier every 12 weeks or if it has shoes 6 weeks riding at least 3 times a week if its fat put it somewhere where there's not much grass and feed it hay morning and night pooping out paddocks unless its big and teeth need grinding down and to buy a horse will at least cost $1,000 if you want a good one then the excpenses of dentist, vet and farrier and if you dont have at least a 3 acre property you'll have to agist which will cost even more but having a horse is great fun but you have to be efficient. hope this helps

  8. Hard? No.

    Time consuming? Yes.

    Expensive? Yes.

    Serious long-term committment? Yes.

    Hassle? Depends on your circumstances.

Rewarding? Yes (if you're an animal lover, at least).

  9. it is a lot harder then it used to be...a company that used horses for dog food just shut down i think? not sure about that, but i know for a fact that there is no place to get rid of old horses now, and horse food is getting really expensive these days, and no one wants to buy a horse these days...

so basically, you will end up with an old horse and have no where to send it, no way to feed it without busting your bank, and no one to buy it from you...lots of horses are just being abandoned because of this and it's really sad..so make sure if you get a horse you know what you are getting into.

  10. very expensive
