I am a incoming freshmen and up until last month I was undecided on my major so I just enrolled in the local state university so now that I am starting to plan things out, I just want to know the details on transferring in to a more well known private university.

  1. Most private universities do accept transfer students -- but the elite schools accept very few.  Princeton, for example, does not accept any transfer students.  Stanford accepts about 20 out of 1300 applications.  Most of the Ivy League schools accept 20-30 out of hundreds of applications.

As you go down in the rankings, schools are more apt to admit more students.  The truth is that you will probably have more luck transferring to a more prestigious public university than a top private university.

  2. you have to go to the transfer center the first university and ask them if you can. They'll have everything you need like classes that you can transfer and the units/credits your are allowed to transfer.
