  1. Actually, it is hard to give an answer to your question. It may both be a yes and a no. I nearly own 6-7 groups (and moderate most of them) Mostly it is enjoyable, but sometimes it gets tiring - and sometimes annoying. It gets annoying because some members don't like the rules, the change of them etc, etc...

You have to take care of your group and don't abandon it, which I means is you have to visit it nearly everyday (and approve members and messages if it is a moderated group) for at least an hour or so and send messages / read them etc etc...

    Overall, it is mostly enjoyable...

And I think it is worth it...

And there are groups for moderators and owners (in yahoo like moderator central to help you out on some issues)

And for more please e-mail me...

  2. Yes, it can be work but it can also be enjoyable.  Some days may be a bit harder if the group starts to get larger (like in the range of 1000 members or more).  A good way to prevent possible issues with spam is that an owner will approve and deny potential new members, and then approve and deny messages from members.

With larger groups when that happens it's a good idea to have additional moderators to help keep the group running smoothly.  It also helps to have them there if you can't be available on a day where something has come up.

For starting out you can decide that you want to start off as a public group (which means that there are no restrictions involved) and then if it does really well start to apply restrictions.

If you have other questions for me please feel free to e-mail or IM me off site any time, but owning a group can be a truly enjoyable experience.
