I am a SAHM and need to look for a job. I have my own 16 month old and was considering applying at a daycare, but I am scared because I have never worked around a lot of kids and scared of me and my child getting sick all the time. Can you please tell me your experiences, especially for ones who work with their child in the same daycare, and what are the requirements. Thaks

  1. I have been working at day cares for about 4 years. at first I will not lie I did get sick. but your immune system will get stronger the more you are around germs. Ive gotten pink eye,  phenomena, the flu, minor colds and last of all which is really weird cus most adults do get this but I got hand foot and mouth disease.  but after all of that I still couldn't stay away for the children that I cared for.

Day care is a hard job but its also very rewarding I know that you are contributing to a young child's life, by letting them experience things that they've never seen before. things like that.

Depending on where you live depends on the ratio of teacher to child. in Michigan you have 1 adult to 4 infants (birth - 2 1/2 something like that) and 1 adult to 8 toddlers  (2 1/2 - 3yrs) and 1 adult to 10 children (3yrs - 4yrs) but the older they are sometimes the easier it gets cus there potty trained and they sometimes listen better. hope this helps.

  2. You need to go to your local technical college and take courses in child care and child development. You can't work in a daycare without a degree in childcare at a technical college.  It's exhausting, but it's also really rewarding. You're also not paid very well there. And, you want your child to get sick now, as opposed to kindergarten or first grade when they'll be missing school. It's best to build up kids' immunity when they're young.

  3. It is a great job when you have younger children, I had 4 (all young) and decided to work as a preschool teacher and that way, they would be with me. You will get sick(and your child) until immunities build. Also most day-cares offer discount or free childcare for your child if you work there(which is great with the price of child care).I don't know what state you live in , so check how many units of early childhood education you will need, some can start you as an aid with little or none.

  4. I've never seen anyone make an acronym out of Stay At Home Mother, I was afraid you had some disease or something!

  5. you will get used to it. it just take some time. but it would be fun untill you have someone not listening to you. gone ahead and try for it. good luck.

  6. i've worked in daycares for 5 years and i only got sick once, and the kids only got sick during cold and flu season and that time of year we washed hands more, and clean toys off like 2 or 3 times a week when they had nap time.  we were more cautious.  i didn't have a degree or anything.  i went for the job and got it.  i even worked at a daycare with physically and mentally handicapped children.

    GOOD LUCK!!!!!!!!!!
