Is it harmful to make babies laugh?

I have a 5 1/2 month old baby. I love to make him laugh, but my wife always yells at me to stop. She says it's bad for babies to laugh too much. I let the baby breath between laughs of course but could she be right?

No...... its get exercise as well a great way to teach them different ways to communicate and also a great bonding experience.  Keep the giggles flowing!

no my husband thought the same thing so i did very extensive reseach and there is nothing bad about making a baby laugh it is actually good for them build a bond and whatnot as long as the baby can breath all is good

haha, my grandma told me not to tickle my little girl because it could cause stuttering.... shes now 2 and talks better than most 2 year olds... and i tickled her all the time and still do. its an old wives tale. tickle your baby all you want as long as you arent doing it too hard and are giving breathing time.

not bad to make the baby laugh...however, laughter is different for babies...sometimes (when tickled or tossed in the air) they can express fears by laughing, cackling, or giggling...we have no way of knowing, but it does happen...i would say little doses of laughing are safe ;) nothing wrong w/ it!!! though the sound of a baby laughing is the best :)

I have never heard anything so ridiculous. Maybe she doesn't want you to make him  sick. It wont make him ill. Laughter is the best medicine.

you win, your wife is totally wrong.  There is a point where tickling stops being funny because it's too hard to breath, but laughing is GOOD!

Laughing is not bad for babies.  Just make sure you are not shaking the baby when you're making them laugh.  Maybe you should try making your wife laugh a little more too.

give me a break..is she serious... me and my husband love making my son laugh..laughing is so healthy..maybe shes jealous..maybe she can't make the baby laugh like you can..

You Know what, tickle the baby after he's nursed and make him laugh like crazy, till he poops then take the diaper to ur wife and tell her, i think he left u a surprise, is mother's day soon or sth :-P

No Seriously, It's Heaven when a baby laughs, u must enjoy this cuz when they start growing up, there wont be alot of laughter!!

I'm 15 years and i know this cuz i give h**l to my old folks :-P

I dont think so..you deff want him to breath in between, yes. I havent heard of too much laughing though. It might make their tummies hurt afterwards like ours do when we laugh alot. I guess to make her happy just do it in moderation.

i LOVE to hear my babies laugh it's gives me the giggles too!

studies have shown that when a mother hears her baby laugh it releases endorphins (feel good hormones) and brings the bond between mother and child closer.

too bad she's missing out!

i love to tickle my kids. my 10 month old has the BEST laugh ever...i tickle him all the time and he loves it, it's a game.

tell your wife to lighten up and enjoy her son.

What???  Keep the laughs coming.  As long as you aren't teaching kids to laugh at inappropriate things - ie, someone getting really hurt - there is nothing wrong with it!
