  1. What pressure are you talking about?

Sleeping on your side is perfectly okay, and it doesn't matter which side you sleep on.  Your heart is all but centered (it is only slightly to the left) almost right behind your sternum.  The picture at the link below shows the location of the heart.

  2. No ... unless you have a pacemaker. Then you are told not to sleep on that side.

  3. Actually, no.

Sleeping on your left side aides digestion (keeps GERD from happening).  It won't hurt your heart, but it helps pregnant women because it exerts the least amount of pressure on the vena cava.  Other than that, there is no evidence that any sleeping position is bad for your heart when not preggo.

“There is no clinical evidence that sleeping in a given position is bad or good for the heart,” says Dr. Richard Stein, director of preventive cardiology at Beth Israel Hospital in New York City and national spokesman for the American Heart Association. “Whatever position is most restful is probably right for the individual.”

no - it shouldnt cause any problems.

  5. when you lay on your left side, it allows your blood pressure to lower because there is a major blood vessel on your left side and you take all of the pressure and strain off of it
