It can make them sick.  You can try to train your dog to drink from the water bowl instead of the pool.  Make sure the water bowl is large, clean and fresh water refilled regularly.  Keep it in a shady spot outdoors. Scold your dog when he drinks from the pool with a firm "no", then bring him over the water bowl, and give him lots of praise and love.  Avoid trying to force his face down into the water bowl or that will seem like punishment too.  Just splash round in it a little bit, bring your wet hand up to his mouth, and give lots of praise.

I had two dogs that would drink pool water an awful lot and we always made sure they drank lots of regular water so they can pee out the chlorine.  One ended up with kidney failure.  The other had a cast iron stomach and lived to 15 but that is NOT the norm.  I would suggest you stop him whenever you see him do it and be sure to have a big bowl of good fresh clean regular water around and when you stop him from drinking pool water, bring him to the clean water.  Hopefully he'll learn.  Good luck!

Yes, yes they can get very sick from it. If a dog regularly drinks poll water their mouth can get infected and can even cause death. Get him checked fast
