Is it healthier to run fast for a shorter time or to jog for a longer time?

  1. you burn the sam e amount of calories if you walk or run.

    So it is better for you to run a long distance.

I read in a running magazine that studies show that sprinters live longer than distance runners.  I don't remember though what they considered a "sprinting distance."  In the serious running world, I think anything under three miles may be considered sprinting, since the norm nowadays is the 26 mile marathon.

    I also read a study (some ten years ago when i was on the cross country team in high school) that women's cross country was the high school sport with the most injuries.  Cross country people usually run three miles of rough terrain.  Track, where people run shorter distances, I don't remember being on the list.

  3. Overall, it's better to go for a longer time.  This improves your cardiovascular health more, because your heart rate is elevated for a greater amount of time.

  4. It's better jog for a long period of time because your heart rate will be elevated for a longer period of time and you will burn more calories and increase cardiovascular health.
