A few days ago, i started seeing like a bruise on my lip and i thought it was just an injury but it started looking more and more like a cold sore. Yesterday i went to the doctor and he prescribed me zovirax but he didnt really look at my that carefully so im wondering if it could be anything else.

Its the first time ive had it and its only one cold sore on my lip. Also, it doesnt huurt or anything except when i apply pressure to it. Does it sound like herpes to you?

Also, i did not have s*x or kiss anyone any time recently.

  2. From your description it is hard to tell if it is a cold sore, but the doctor would most likely have known.  He wouldn't have to look that closely to tell.  Cold sores are rather common.

The fact that you haven't kissed anyone or had s*x recently makes no difference.  Even if you have never had a cold sore before, you could still have the cold sore virus, which is a member of the herpes family of viruses.  Many of us already have the cold sore virus dormant in our bodies, and never have a flare up of cold sores.  We contracted it as children, as it is a very common virus, and children pick it up easily as they often share food and drinks, and may be less concerned about hand washing and hygiene.   Cold sores can be transmitted even when the person does not have a cold sore, though it is less likely to happen then.

There is no over-the-counter medication or home remedy that cures cold sores.  Only time will take care of that.  But there is a good prescription medication for cold sores.  It will make them go away much faster, and as a result of taking this medication you will have far fewer outbreaks of cold sores.

The absolute best treatment for cold sores is a prescription medication in pill form called Valtrex.  It was intended for genital herpes, but cold sores are caused by the same family of viruses, and Valtrex stops colds sores in their tracks.  None of the other treatments come close to the effectiveness of Valtrex, not the ointment Zovirax, and certainly not Abreva or anything else.  Ask your doctor about it to see if you would be a good candidate for this medication.  My doctor prescribed it for me for cold sores about five years ago and after taking it only a couple of times I hardly ever get a cold sore any more, and before Valtrex I was having several attacks a year.  On the rare occasions that I do get one now, it is gone almost immediately when I take the medication - in about a day.    In the meantime, here are a couple of informative links.

  3. cold sores are not actually the STD version of herpes. there are two types of the infection.....

the one that causes cold sores which is common and will remain in ur system all your life but isnt harmful

    and

    the STD version.

it does sound like a coldsore....it doesnt matter if u havent kissed anyone recently the infection lives under the skin around your mouth but only results in a coldsore when u are understress or the temp of ur mouth heats up quickly.

  4. Herpes is herpes, it doesn't matter if you only have one sore or are covered in them.  And yes, you can get it on your mouth, not just on your genitals.  It can take time to show up after you catch it from someone, and once you have it, it can recur at any time, so it can still happen even if you haven't had s*x or kissed anyone recently.

If it really bothers you, then you should go see your doctor to get meds for it.  Even if it doesn't, you should be careful about kissing anyone for as long as it lasts (and for a few days afterwards), as you can pass it on to someone else.

  5. All cold sores are caused by the herpes simplex virus.

Most people already have it in their system, and you don't have to have got it recently. It lies dormant and flares up at certain times. You may have got it ages ago.

  6. A standard cold sore is a type of herpes...You CAN pass it to a partner genitally by giving them oral...You can have it a long time before it shows up...Always be careful and use protection..

  7. herpes usually hurts weather u apply pressure or not. but every one who has or gets herpes is different. cold sores really are oral herpes. i like to think that cold sores is just a nicer name for them. if they are visible then doctors think that they really don't need to test for it. if u have symptoms like dry chapped skin, itching, burning, and or tingling sensations around or under the skin where the sore is...then its oral herpes. u can use creams like Abreva and or Lipactin to heal it up faster. it doesn't matter what size of it is, if its a cold sore then its oral herpes. i have them and i have tiny sores that break out and i have all of the symptoms of oral herpes when they break out..

u don't have to kiss or have s*x with any one to get them either. u can get them from sharing things like drinks, ciggarettes, chap stick, utensils, with some one that has cold sores. plus u can have cold sores on your lip and never get them down south. but they can be passed to the genitals.

u can even get cold sores as a child from a relative kissing u on the face with cold sores.

  8. If it scabs or has any kind of liquid in it then it is a cold sore. The zovirax will heal it very quickly without discomfort. If you have every had chickenpox then you have already been exposed. They are different subtypes of Herpes Zoster Virus. Also contact does not need to be recent, if you were exposed at anytime the virus can linger in your system until your body is stressed in some way (illness, lots of stress, injury, etc)

  9. Not necessarily...Try a pharmacy, they should be able to tell you y looking at it but it sounds like a standard cold sore to me.

  10. Cold sores are normally a reactivation of a herpes infection caught as a child when someone kissed you then. It doesn't mean you have been doing anything sexual or kissed anyone recently.

Hepres stays dormant in your body once you catch it. When you get a cold sore, it generally just means your immune system is a bit low, while has allowed the virus to surface.

It is unlikely to be anything else. Cold sores are very common. 80% of adults are infected with them.

Cold sores can just be small, and a tiny bit tender. They don't normally hurt at all unless you get a really terrible one.

  11. doesnt matter if its small or big, if it's there.., then it's there and yes, you have oral herpes.

  12. it may not be herpes.. MAY NOT i dont know

  13. Cold sores ARE Herpies so yes you a form of herpes  there is symplex I symplex II etc.

And it can lie dormant for a long time and not show up, then all the sudden out of the blue you see it.  Doesnt matter when the last time you did anything was.

No cure either, you can only control your  outbreaks.
