So stupid names like Heavenly Hiraani Tiger Lilly, Fifi Trixibelle and Pixie http://www.contactmusic.com/new/xmlfeed.nsf/mndwebpages/peaches%20geldof%20calls%20for%20end%20to%20silly%20names

Why can't courts globally do something to stop children being abused in this way?

  1. Yes, Please no more Apples, Peaches or any other fruit for a name!

  2. I'd love to have a unique name, well I kind of do I only know 1 other victoria, but its old and boring. But I'd love to have a really nice name, but maybe not over the top like your example  heavenly hiranna tiger Lilly.

  3. i agree as i logged on this morning i was thinking about that. Imagine how badly she was or is joked in public. They sould do sumthing about this. In my opinion this is child abuse, seriously Tallulah does the Hula is so cruel!!!!!

  4. It will never stop, unfortunately.  I know someone whose name is Elvin and that probably pushed him into becoming an alchololic - teased all his lifel  Name means "small elf".

  5. Definitely, parents don't realize when u have a name like shaniqua it causes people who just know ur name to react to u differently.  Like if u call a broker trying to buy a million dollar house and ur name is lashanda then the broker will NOT take u as seriously

  6. I know it's evil. I read somewhere that some couple named their daughter Ima w***e.

Imagine how much those kinds must hate their parents...

  7. YEAH!

  8. because  they  just  cant, i do agree  that  parents  should  not  give  hideous  names  but  what  can be  done

  9. No, because what's silly to you may not be to someone else.  For instance, there are foreign names that are perfectly normal to the people from that country, but will get laughed at in the US.  Trust me, I know.  I get your point though, because naming your child things like "Mojito Marie", "Marijuana Anne" and "Cookie Friskybits" or whatever will probably cause them a life of mockery.

  10. I agree with the general point you're making, but who is to say where the line should be drawn between a legitimate name and a silly name.

It could be argued by some that naming a child Apple, Destiny, Forest, or something else that's non-traditional could be considered silly. In general, I just think more parents need to stop and ask themselves if they would want to live with the name they are planning to give to their child.

But I do agree that officials should step in when a parent has clearly crossed the line by naming a child "s*x Fruit" or "Talula Does The Hula" or something else completely absurd.

  11. i think creativity makes them stand out!!!

some names are played out !!

  12. Yes silly names suck.

  13. i feel the same way

like here are some stupid names

    aquanetta like the hairspray

    shaquayquay

    shaquaya

    abcde pronunced absade

    princeetta

    4-reel

    miller-lyte

    and the worst:

tula does the hula in hawaii that is her first name only!!

i dont mind these parents comming up with different names but at least make sure that their reasonable!

i so feel the same way you do!

  14. What about those perfectly decent names that one or two people think are silly? I think its silly to name a child after a town- Paris, Venice, London etc all seem silly to me. But I don't say someone else cant use them.

Some names are borderline abusive such as this poor child named Talulah does the hula in Hawaii. How foolish is that?

It comes down - who gets to pick and choose? Whose opinion matters most  - parents or some board of directors.

  15. People are all different, whats classed as 'silly' in your book, is classed as appropriate in another. Personally tbh i think its a free choice.

  16. because really, it's the parents choice what they name their child and if we take away part of that "right" you know people will just complain and say the world is coming to an end. that's why nothing ever gets done. because people have "rights" and the right to complain and state your opinion is part of "free speech."

  17. What other rights would you like to take away? It is stupid some of the names out there right now but censorship is not the answer.

  18. I absolutely agree. There are so many parents who do this to indulge themselves but have no idea what it will do to the kids who have to grow up with the name and be labeled and handicapped by it. I believe it would be very hard for Fifi Trixiebelle Smith to be taken seriously by a law firm or in the board room or even as an Avon salesperson.

  19. Well, being a person with one of these so-called abusive names I wouldn't change it for anything, I am an adult now and could if I wanted to, I don't.....the uniqueness that this moniker afforded me over the course of growing up was great....I was remembered, and even people who didn't ever meet me, had heard of my interesting name and later on in life when they did meet me, they knew of me and said people would discuss my name....I kinda feel famous, and people wanna talk to me when they hear my name, so it has been great and I wouldn't ever wanna be a Steve or Mark or Michael....to common, and I am anything but.....by the by my name is Bang Bang Pumpkin Wilson IV(dad thought roman numerals at the end would give me distinction, what a guy!!)

  20. And they should stop calling them "Princess" too.

  21. The child has an option to change their name later in life. It's no one else's business except the parents what they are named.

I agree that some names are very stupid, but its not up to me to say you have to name your child Scott or Jen.

I personally have an international name, and yes, people stumble on it and mispronounce it all the time, but I love my name. I'm glad that nobody ever had to refer to my as Erika M. vs. Erika J. I like that my name is unique.

  22. Actually a judge in New Zealand recently put a ban order on stupid names and has issued the judgement that ones he finds must be changed for the dignity of the child and their well being.  He recently did it with some girl whose freaky parents named her "Talulah Does the Hula".

I do think something needs to be done to stop parents from these stupid made up and ridiculous names bestowed to their kids.  It makes me wonder what drugs they are on or where they put their brains to think names like "Axel" or "Neveah" or "Apple Kiwi Plum" and other ridiculousness would be appropriate.  It may not be global but at least someone is doing something somewhere to put a stop to it.

Other stupid names I've heard on actual people:

Twins- Ima and Ura Hogg (and yes, they live near Houston TX and it is a real family!)

Tuna Fish- someone my sister went to school with

Crystal Shanda Leer- again, an actual name of someone my sister knew in school

Fish Patty-  someone I knew from school

Joette Bugle Hugle- someone I went to elementary school with

Beatle (their last name was Bailey and they were our neighbors for years when I was a kid! The kid was horrified by it and went by his middle name)

Chuckroast (yes, this was HER real name and that doesn't include the last name!)

Lemonjello and Orangejello (twins that my husband actually wrote insurance policies on!!!)

    Someone stop the insanity!!!
