  1. it can cause bacteria to grow

  2. Why would you want to share a straw with someone else anyway?

I'd say it's no less hygienic than sharing any other drink item with someone using a communal container.

  3. For example, you go to a fast food place and you have left over soda, so you want to put it in the office fridge so you can finish it later.  Personally, I'd take the straw out because the extra height might get the cup knocked over.  I would think that most anything in the fridge would be covered or sealed, so I don't think there'd be too much trouble with germs traveling.  I'd be more afraid of the cup getting knocked over and spilling all over everything.

  4. Nope

  5. No, straws are one use only. First, they can harbour bacteria as the tip of the straw will be covered by saliva. And when other people use it, it can transfer illnesses or STIs.

Also, straws are made out of plastic, so it left in your drink for a prolonged period of time, some chemicals can seep into your drink. It's just like letting your drink sit in a clear plastic water bottle (the ones designed for one use only, y'know like Dasani and Aquafina). Except the straws take longer for chemicals to seep out.

  6. not at all..
