Is it hyperbole to say that the US is on the tried and tested road to fascism

I don't care if it is or not,

It just looks like the standard definitions apply: government aligned with business, disregard of pre-existing concensus-the constitution being altered or ignored, and all the rest.

  3. The US is indeed on the road to fascism.  Unfortunately next year McCain will probably be driving.

It is definitely being flirtatious with fascism, that's for sure.  The problem is, it's not glaring enough for most people to recognize.  Along with major compensations for corporations come the crumbs thrown to the population.  In other words, while Bill Gates is building his 4th mega-mansion (I'm just using an allegory here) the average person in America is concerned about an electric bill.  But allow someone to purchase a wide-screen television at a sale and they think they're living in the land of opportunity, funny, that!
