of let's say 10 $ or 10 GBP an hour for a workers wage, then only pay them 5 $ or 5 GBP.

  1. Quite legal. Two separate arrangements, you see.  What you pay a contractor is quite separate from whatever arrangments exist for him paying his employees.

  3. I din't know all the ins and outs of English lagour Law, but the contractor is entitled to a profit.  If the employee accepted $5 an hour to work the job, I don't see a problem,.  The employee can always quit

  5. This is called making a profit. Would you run a business and only charge say 10 pounds and hour to the customer and then pay your staff 10 pounds an hour,  You wouldn't last very long in business would you.
