Is it illegal for a persons parents take their mail, opening it or keeping it and not opening it?

I think my parents don't really like my girlfriend whose going to college this year. She wants to send me letters and I think my mom will try and keep the letters from me. If you have the answer its a great help thanks.

  1. Try getting a post office box.  Be warned that if your post office is like ours, you'll be involved in missorted mail on occasion.  On the other hand, any break-in attempts will be a Federal felony.


  2. Until you are 18 or legally emancipated by the Court, your parent(s) have the absolute right to parent you as they see fit as long as you are not abused or neglected.  Part of the right to parent means they have the right to control who you associate with.  Your mom can destroy the letters if she wishes.  Once you are 18, she would not be legally able to do that.  Be aware that, once you are 18, she doesn't have to support you if you do things she doesn't like (unless you are on juvenile probation).  


  3. yes call the FBI  only if it got your name on it
