Is it illegal for an 18 year old boy to kiss a 12 year old girl?

My step-daughter lied to us about this boys age, and we just recently found out that he was 18. Is there anything we can do to this boy legally?? We are dealing with the step-daughter.

Geez, it's like my freshman year all over again.  Illegal?  That would be a question best answered by your local authorities. Socially unacceptable?  Sure.   You're probably right to give him the benefit of the doubt and warn him first but definately stand your ground.  I have to speak from personal experience though, it is certainly something to be dealt with this lying business but please try to have confidence that you've instilled certain values in her that she respects and that she's smart enough to make reasonable boundaries between her and boys namely those outside her age group.  Your faith in her coupled with discipline is going to be more important to her than you'll ever know.  She's going to be attracted to the "verboten" as most kids are so let her know that even though it's a no no in your book, still allow her to be able to talk to you about it without punishing her for her curiosity.  I hope that came across well, I wish you well with your step-daughter.

Based on what i've been through I believe he can go 2 jail~i'm 15 and when i was 14 i had s*x w/ a guy who was 25 and he could b in jail now~but u should talk to his mom and dad to figuer out y he likes yunger girls!!! -_-

i would warn him first, if he didn't know it wouldn't be fair for the guy to be labelled a sexual predator or paedophile for life because of this...if it continues talk to the police

I just looked up this website. That's what it says. It is illegal for someone under 16 to kiss a teen. Call the police, tell them and they will know what to do. Good luck! :D

in some states yes it is illegal.  you need to contact the local police to find out your states laws.  Also it doesn't matter if she is a step daughter or not  she is not capable of making rational decisions until around age 19.  That is the age when her brain is fully developed.

yes it is illegal.  romeo and juliet laws (which only some states have) only applies to a 2-3 year age difference.  You can't probably get him on statutory rape as no s*x occurred, but you probably could have him treated as a pedophile sexual offender, as he is an adult who is pursuing a child.  Does he know she was twelve?  if not i would tell him to leave her alone and move on. being listed a sexual offender will likely ruin his life, and if he didn't know she was twelve that's not exactly fair.  good luck

I don't think it is legal...or at least it shouldn't be.  I would give him a warning because like you said he may not know she is 12.  Let him know and warn him that if you find out that he contacts her etc...that you will call the police.

Gross!  What 18 year old would WANT to be with a 12 year old?  It doesn't matter if he didn't know it was illegal- I'm sure he knew it was weird and wrong...and your daughter lied about his age, so I'm willing to bet he was behind that.  Check with your state's laws, but I'm sure you could at least get a restraining order against him.

As many people have stated it depends on local laws.

Laws aside a kiss is a kiss, no decent police officer will arrest anyone based on a kiss alone.  Best thing would be to talk to the young man and his parents and say that it is not acceptable for him to be kissing 12 year olds and if you hear of it again you will report him to the police.

I understand you have already talked to the girl, she might be smitten, she might even be twisting the truth a little so take things with a pinch of salt.

Doing more than that at the moment would be overkill and use up precious police time on something that might be quite innocent.  I think talking to the young mans parents will have a much bigger effect than talking to the police!

Take a deep breath and talk to this guys parents. He is a legal adult now but that shouldn't stop you from going over his head. But if this continues call the police! This is horrible!

He should know better.  that's child molestation, and yes, you have legal rights.  i think the way you are handling it is just right, with the one time warning.

Call your local police station and file charges.

They may not stick, but they will scare the kid off.

Hopefully they will stick however since this is clearly a case of a sexual predator who got caught before anything happened.  (we hope nothing happened)

If the cops won't do anything, contact your local TV station or paper.  They just eat up sexual predator stories and love messing with people's lives.
