Is it illegal for gas stations to charge cost because of credit or cash

this just seems like price gouging to me.

  1. No, it is not illegal, as long as they disclose that they are doing it.

    If they are charging more for charge card purchases, it is because they are trying to recoup the charge that the credit card company levies on them to process the purchase.

    In the United States, gas stations make very little money selling gas - they usually rely on other sales and services to stay profitable.

  3. When you use a debit or credit card, the card companies "charge" for the use to the store, which, of course, gets passed on to us.  So if a store charges less for using cash only, they are trying to save money by not being charged by the credit card company.
