  1. That's a good question, you will  have to find the Kazakhstan Government website and find out their laws and restrictions, they may have a law not allowing you to speak to any government officials, including Embassy.

By the way George L even though U.S is entitled to privacy, the declaration of Human Rights, which can't be trampled by law in any country, the human rights declaration state " Every human being has the right to freedom of speech, speak freely in ANY country in this world" therefore even though USA is entitled to privacy of it's Embassy it doesn't mean no one is to contact the Embassy for information, but may visit other resources within the Embassy! great help George :)

  2. call up the embassy or consulate.  they may help you; maybe not.  nothing illegal about a phone call.

  3. unless you are related to that person? you will not get an answer, # privacy act, # and even so, they do not have to answer you; you would have to have proofs that you are related,

Embassies will not give informations on anyone,

  4. That is one of the thing embassies are for. go for it and good luck!

  5. George might have experience, as do I, albeit very old. Within the consulate is the Americans Citizen Services section. This branch works for the welfare of US Citizens in the country.  They do things like visit prisoners, help stranded Americans get back home, and locate someone who has Social Security benefits coming to them. (They do NOT look for green card holders, only US Citizens.)

You didn't specify if the person you're looking for is a US Citizen or a Kazakh. And you didn't say why you're looking.

However, merely contacting them is not illegal. They'll tell you "Sure we'll try to help you find this US Citizen" or "Sorry, we can't help you."  They may have a list of attorneys who work with US Citizens for a variety of reasons, and may provide you with that list.

  6. thats not illegal. you wont get in trouble. you should def. go for it...its worth a try. good luck :)

  7. i

  8. It's not illegal to ask. But I'd be very surprised to hear you got an answer, assuming they could even find out. If it was the US embassy, "hey, that's illegal" would be the answer as Americans are entitled to their privacy under the law.
