I work at a large hospital. When a person calls in sick, they have to give a reason. Some people have told me this is illegal. What do you think?

  1. read up on HIPAA

an employer can request an employee to get a note from their doc stating that they are ill and how long they are expected to stay home and rest but the details of exactly what they are ill with cannot be forced and its illegal to push that issue.

  2. no, i dont think so.

  3. NO IT IS USUALLY IN THE EMPLOYEE HANDBOOK

THAT YOU CAN BE QUESTIONED WHEN CALLING OFF WORK.

you can be forced to not return woth out a doctors approvel of time off too.

read your handbook or terms of employment

  4. it is not illegal.  It is the right of the employer to know if your reason of calling sick is valid or you are just making up excuses just because you don't feel like working and thus abusing your priviliedges as an employee
