Question:

Is it illegal for my mother to not let me speak to my sister?

My parents divorced about 2 yrs ago and my mother moved out of the country with my 14 yr old sister. I am 21 yrs old and my mother found a conversation on AIM my sister and I had complaining about how things were in and how my sister wanted to come back. She was asking me if it was possible to get out of the situation she was in and upon reading this my mother forbade her to speak to me and made her block my screename and she won't pick up my calls when I call.

I know it's illegal for a mother to prohibit her children's father visitation of them but what are my rights as far as being a sister?

Thank you in advance...

  1. Unfortunately siblings under American law have very limited rights.  The good news is that you might have a claim under the country that your mother/sister are currently living in.  I would research the laws of the host country and potentially go after them there because American law will not provide you with a very good result.
