Me and my family are planning on buying a mini stallion. I am kindof a little bit worried that its illegal for us to own one because there are people in our home that are under 18, and they are supposed to help us out with the stallion. Please help!

  1. Well the parents must sign for it. Unless you sign the contract it isnt your horse. But no, having people under the age of 18 involved with the horse is not agaisnt the law, they just can't legally own it.

  2. No it is not, no matter whose name the papers are in, just alot of places will not let you show a stallion

  3. Depend on the law in your state.  In most states, minors cannot engage in contracts without the written consent of an adult.

As long as an adult makes the deal,  you're fine.  Check with the zoning laws in your area.  Find out if its legal for you to have a mini pony as a pet.

  4. no it isn't at all lol.

  5. I shouldn't think so? My family has bred and raised quarter horses for the last seven or so years and I am only now 18. I personally have had three different studs in that time and my father about six. (My sister is 10 and helps out all the time)

Maybe depending on where you live there are certain restrictions but I really don't think it is illegal. Check in your area though if you are really concerned.

  6. Uh no.

  7. Of course not!

Where did you get that silly idea?

Go ahead and buy that mini stallion!

  8. no, it dependes on want state your in!

  9. Legally, nobody under 18 can "own" an animal- even if it's a child's pet, the legal owner is an adult parent or guardian, and if anything happens to that pet, the adult is the one held responsible, even if it's a 16 year old teenager that has the pet.  As long as someone in your family is older than 18, then that person will be the legal *owner* of the horse, and it doesn't matter who else is in the household.  A stallion is no different than any other horse, there aren't laws regarding who can own one.  If the stallion is ever going to be bred however, the adult(s) would have to sign all the breeding contracts and so forth, the kids can't take part in that because it's a legal document.

  10. No, it is not illegal for juveniles to own stallions. It may not be advisable, but if there are adults who will supervise the handling, and the stallion is not a bad one, there should be no issues.

  11. No ^^ I own Miniature Horses and you just can't show a MINI stallion unless you are 13 and you have to be 18 + to show a NORMAL sized stallion. So, no it isn't illegal for you to own a Miniature stallion (because you have to be 18+ to REALLY own a animal) but it might be "illegal" to show one if you are under 13 :) so no worries xD

  12. why would it be illegal. i own a mustang and im 14

  13. Most organizations will not allow someone under the age of 18 to SHOW a stallion.  But, I do not believe it is in any way ILLEGAL to own one.  However, stallions no matter what their size can be unpredictable and I would be careful allowing anyone of any age to handle him.  I say this so you don't have an unfortunate mishap a get sued.  Try to keep the handlers of this particular horse within the family.

  14. of course not you can own a horse at whatever age as long as your parents say you can

  15. No, studs are alot more aggressive than a gelding or mare, but if they have be handled properly and are well mannered it shouldn't be a problem. The other thing to ensure is that your kids and anyone else who will be handling the stud knows the proper way to handle him, especially if he is going to be around mares in heat.

Owning a Stallion is no different that people owning a bull or intact male dog. Males with their Testicles are bilologically more aggressive, its in the way they are handled and raised.

  16. You can own them, you're just not allowed to handle them at shows or public places, etc.

At your barn it'd be fine.

  17. not in tx it isnt

  18. its is not illigal to own or breed a stallion if you are under 18. BUT you must be over 18 to show the stallion :) hope that helps

  19. No, it's not illegal.  I have to ask why you're keeping a stallion, though.

  20. just as long as theres an adult.

  21. It is not illegal. Stallions are just like any other horse, just usually a little more wild. You should be fine. And since he is a mini, he should be a little easier to handle. Just be careful, like you would around any other horses.

  22. I have never heard of it being illegal, these days anything is possible.

  23. don't think so

  24. why would it be illegal

  25. Not to my knowledge. However I would expect there to be some sort of clause about the age of anyone taking it into a public place, like the street for instance, because of public safety and insurance.
