  1. Where I live, (Alberta/British Columbia, Canada), it is unsafe (and illegal) to pass within 50 ft of any intersection. If you look on busy streets, there is usually a solid line as you approach any intersection. This means "do not pass"...........a driver who is about to enter the street you are on may not expect you to change lanes coming through an intersection, and may proceed out to make a right turn and you could hit him. Put yourself in his position! It isn't safe and that's why it's illegal......but hey, ask a local authority (a chief driving examiner at a DMV testing office).....they don't bite....lol.... just to verify what I say is correct....

  2. Well it's illegal to change lanes in an intersection in any state.  However technically, you could change lanes in the intersection but you'd have to do it promptly and safely without crossing over the solid white lines.

->Next time you're driving and approach an intersection notice how the broken white lane lines become solid just before and after each intersection; it is illegal to change lanes across one of those.

However it's really up to the cop's discretion and they can pop you for changing lanes in the intersection if they want, you'll notice it's hard to change lanes without crossing those solid lines at some point unless you swerve hard.

Anyway, you should probably check the MN DMV Drivers Handbook I link'd below.  Buckle up son.

  3. That is illegal to do in any state.......

  4. yea... you have to do it either before the intersection, or after.  Most cops won't pull you over for it though, unless they are really bored.
