Question:

Is it illegal to HOPE a Vandal is murdered?

I just sent an email to my communities HOA manager letting them know about some vandalism that I noticed.

In the email, I stated that although I would not resort to violence, that I "HOPE" someone either murders or mames these vandals.

Did I commit a crime?

  1. It is not illegal to HOPE anything.  STATING the hope could be in some cases.  Unless something actually happens to the vandal, and/or you actually know who they are, I doubt you will face legal trouble in the case you describe.

  2. yep. The thought police are going to drag you into room 101

  3. To say you WANT someone dead is not a crime in and of itself. However, if that party turns up dead, your name will go to the top  of the suspect list. Also, to urge a mob to lynch that party to death could be be considered "fighting words".

  4. Thats not a crime, but its enough to cast suspicion on you and police may keep an eye on you.

If that vandal were to turn up dead, you would instantly become the prime suspect.

  5. No, thats just an opinion.  If yew want someone to die or go to jail than say it. Well, at least it isn't a crime where i live.

  6. This is not an illegal act, but it doesn't sound very Christian to wish harm to someone else.

How about wishing that they be CAUGHT and ARRESTED instead.

  7. There would be no one left in the world if we all were able to act on our thoughts.

If the vandals were caught and then found murdered or maimed, you could be questioned though.  Your email suggests you want them murdered or maimed.

  8. No,

not in the USA. You have the freedom of speech.
