Question:

Is it illegal to advertise myself as a babysitter if I have no experience?

I'm thinking about making some cards and putting them up in shop windows and through people's letterboxes.

I have no experience with babysitting though, although I am a very sensible person, I love kids and I'm on the path to becoming a teacher.

Is it illegal for me to advertise myself as a babysitter?

  1. No it's fine but box clever.

Have at least two referee's that you know would be happy to answer calls from anxious parent's to reassure them what a good suitable person you are. I know for a fact not anybody in their right mind would leave a child with someone they had no knowledge of apart from a card with no prior experience.

Definitely go for it as i'm sure you would be good at it though be prepared for a hard time getting people to take you on intially. Good Luck!

  2. no

  3. hey.. no its not illegal though you probably wont get any response.. people tend to only use people they know, would u leave ur kids with someone u have never met before??

If u had been police checked and had physical experience of looking after children u might be more likely to get 'work' out of the cards etc..

  4. No its not illegal however why not try babysitting for friends, family and get the word out that way. word travels faster by mouth, especially if that mouth its travelling with gives an experience of having you babysit there children.

    good luck :)

  5. It's not legal for you to distribute adverts through letterboxes yourself, you fall foul of the Junk Mail legislation.

But yes, by all means advertise in newsagents etc.

  6. no, not at all - go for it!

  7. I don't believe I have ever heard of a state that regulates babysitting, yet.

Therefore, simply advertising that you are willing to be paid to perform simple babysitting should not be illegal.

However, when you advertise, you should expect people to ask you exactly what kind of experience you do have.  Since you claim to have none, I don't know why someone that only knew you through an advertisement would hire you.  Or, if they didn't ask about your experience, I would question the ability of them to parent their own children and probably would prefer to stay away from people that are that stupid.

Therefore, build up some good history with some family and friends such that if you feel it necessary, you can advertise for additional work knowing that you have the experience and ability to earn the money and provide a good service.  If you have never truly babysat any children, you need to experience it that first in a careful way to insure that you are mature enough and attentive enough to do a good job.

  8. lol, well i doubt u'll get arrested 4 it.

    good luck tho :)

  9. No it's not. As long as your 13 and over.

  10. Yes it's legal. Put you have references and get them from neighbours, aunts, friends of youur parents BUT NOT YOUR PARENTS.
