Just wondering, is it illegal to advertise my band or shop by writing details on the footpaths in Melbourne's city (Just because you don't see it often)

Anyone done this before?

  1. I am sure that the local council will have some law or regulation which prohibits this, and  the right to impose a fine. However, you have probably seen all the posters and signs put on lamp posts advertising 'Garage Sales' and 'concerts'. These signs are an eyesore and are never taken down by the people who put them there. I have never read or heard of any of these advertisers being prosecuted, although they should be, and ordered to remove them. In Sydney, years ago, a fellow used to write the word 'Eternity' all over the city footpaths using chalk. Nobody bothered. Frankly I do not believe that it is a good idea, we have enough advertising and clutter around without having the footpaths being used for this purpose.

  2. Sounds like defacing public property/graffiti to me.

    Why not just use flyers?

  3. I know that artists in Melbourne City have to have a permit as do buskers. But I do not know about other Councils. Depending on what you want to advertise exactly try my website or my bus.
