to buy bongs or pipes online if you live in the US?

No go ahead and buy it, It's not against the law to have one or buy one, it's only against the law as to how it is used.

From my expierience with friends and family, YES. It is legal in the U.S to even carry them on you as long as there is no proveable sighting of ANY drug related resin, or leftovers. My friends have a pipe that was bought just because they liked it. Cops have searched them and found it many times but they didn't get into any trouble because it wasn't used. :) Hope this helps.

this IS a question about drug paraphernalia, not even the police are stupid enough to think bongs or glass pipes, or even metal pipes are really used for tobacco.  doesn't mean they can do jack about it.

its legal to buy "water pipes" and other paraphernalia from head shops OR online, its legal to own it. as soon as you smoke out of it and there is resin on the piece, then its not "legal" because it has obviously been used to smoke weed out of. but even if a cop finds your pipe with NO weed in it, they likely will either take it or break it and leave it at that.

It's legal, since a pipe is just a pipe.

BUT.....

With the sweeping powers that The Patriot Act has given the Office of Homeland Security it would be likely that such purchases are monitored on line (yes, the NSA can do that legally) and your name would go on a "possible drug user" list.

If you made other purchases, grow lights, hydroponic cultures or even rolling papers or "herb"grinders (heh!) that would raise flags in their system and you could expect a call from the Feds "just making enquiries".

Sad, but 8 years of Bushco paranoia has eroded many of our civil rights...

I'm pretty sure it is not illegal.  I came back from Amsterdam and they searched my bag at customs and there were two pipes in my bag.  They packed them back up for me...as long as there is no marijuana or resin in the pipes, they are legal.
