See I want a copy on my computer so i can watch it when i take it with me, but I don't want to carry around the dvd and perhaps break it. And I don't know how to put a copy of MY dvd onto my computer without actually running it on the dvd player. I want to be able to just open it as an avi or mpg file and watch it.

What about tv shows? is it illegal to download tv shows, for free, that you've missed when you KNOW that since you already own all the other seasons on dvd that you're going to buy this season as well?

Does anyone know a site i can go to that will give me the law regarding illegal and legal downloading practices in layman's terms cause i sure don't speak lawyer.

  1. You can copy DVDs to your computer for personal use only. You'll need a good DVD ripper program. Search for it on google.

  2. no matter the reason you want to copy your DVD, even you "already own it" - you still don't have the "all rights".

don't look far, read on the back of DVD packing: there is a "warning: for sale or rental for private home use...only. federal law provides severe civil and criminal penalties for the unauthorized reproduction, distribution or exhibition of copyrighted motion pictures, videotapes or videodiscs..."

you can use your DVD but you are not allowed to make any profit (money) by using that.
