Is it illegal to download songs from Limewire?

To have the software itself is perfectly legal, but not using it. Kind of like owning a gun but not killing a guy with it. anyhow, use it as you please, but not only is it illegal, but about 40% of the files you download will contain viruses.

Internet moderators have a way of finding you through your IP address, and they can basicly fine you whatever thier heard desires if they catch you, so to play it safe, I would just buy songs of of iTunes or some similar software.

It is only illegal if you download copyright protected songs.

e.g. if you download a lil wayne song, it is illegal.

if you meet some kid online who made his own song with garage band and feels like giving it to you, you can download it and it is legal.

The latter example is the only reason file-sharing programs are still legal.

Using the software is not illegal, otherwise owning it would be illegal. Just like with a gun, you can own it and use it without doing anything illegal. You can download copyright-free songs, and you can kill deer during deer season. Both are completely legal and why said things exist

Limewire and other file sharing software is legal. Using it to upload or download copyright protected media - music, videos, images, software - without the copyright holder's consent is illegal because it is theft.

It's a common misconception that paying for the pro version of Limewire makes it legal to download songs. The artists of the songs you download don't get a penny of that and it is still illegal.
