Is it illegal to download videos and music from limewire?

i've never done it before. but most of my friends have and they have a lot more stuff on there than they do on itunes. is it illegal to do it? and can people who do it get into trouble with the law???

yes... it's illegal.

Basically, they are downloading music and videos without paying for them... so the artists get no royalties.

So many people do this that it's not likely that they will get caught, but if they ever are the fines will be huge.

I for one don't think it's worth the risk... but it's your call...

Well there isn't really a reliable source for free music downloads and it is illegal since the artists don't get paid for their work.  The best, and cheapest way to get music downloads is through MP3Lingo.com.  They offer unlimited music downloads for only a few bucks a month.  It's much cheaper than any other site I've came across and they are 100% legal.  They also have just about every song in every genre.  Check them out at www.mp3lingo.com when you get a chance.

LimeWire itself isn't illegal, but if you use it to download copyrighted files for free (this includes music, pictures, videos and even documents) that you are effectivley stealing form the owners and THAT is illegal.

If you share things whihc have a licence on LimeWire than that is fine, as the owner has given you permission to download the file. Otherwise you are doing something illegal.

if it's copyrighted then the answer is yes....Most of these programs like utorrent, bitcomet, limewire etc are used for illegal sharing.

Yes it is pretty much illegal. Most songs have some form of copyright, but to be honest with you there is a huge amount of the population that either download songs from limewire or other free mp3 websites. I am not advising you to download songs illegally, but to be honest I don't know anyone that has ever been caught, so it's upto you at the end of the day.

Yes it is illegal because your not paying for the songs/video's. Some of the stuff on limewire is also not safe because since it's all free some downloads some with viruses/keyloggers/or spyware. People can get in trouble with the law and have. Usually they offer an out of court settlement of a certain amount of money depending on how much you used it
