Is it illegal to drive without shoes on?

I always thought it was ok, but someone recently told me it's illegal. Anyone know?

My mom used to say that it was illegal, but I don't know if that was true of if she was just telling me that so I woudln't do it. I would think it would be safer than driving in flip flops...

I know my wife wears highheels all the time and when she is driving the first thing she does is kick her shoes off,and she has been pulled over for speeding,and when they tell her to step out of the car she tells the officer wait i have to put my shoes on, The door is open of course,They never say anything to her.

not sure about the state you live in, but it is illegal in maryland.

It is illegal. That is what the rule book says. Of course that depends on where you are from. I can only speak from my experience in Melbourne, Australia
