Why not get McMurray's catalogue and choose a species of chicken that is a lovely (natural) color upon hatching?

I really dont believe that it would be illegal as you are not dyeing the chick   Your are dyeing the egg prior to the embryo forming

Why would you want a dyed chicken?

They are live creature's, the way nature made them.

Want a purple chick, but a stuffed toy.

Call your local Humane So. and ask if legal.

You can dye you chick,now selling dyed chicks is a whole other thing.I would contact your local animal control and have them tell you the ordinance that says you cant sell dyed chicks if there is one at all.

I see people who dye thier dogs hair and no one cares,its usally food grade dye anyway same thing used in cake frosting that we eat.
