I have a male cat that is de-clawed but i don't know if that is illegal. I have had him since i was six months old. I am 12 turning thirteen. When i got him he was 5, de-clawed, fixed, and has a tattoo in his ear. If animal control came in and looked at his nalis would they take him away?

  1. no! alot of people get their cats de-clawed. if it was illegal, you wouldnt be able to go to the vet or animal hospital to do that.

my grandmas cat is de-clawed, because her cat is an inside cat. my cat was a stray, and he goes outside so my mom wont de-claw him. but i think thats mean. if youre going to mess with a cat, you can get clawed. =D

  2. It's not illegal but it's horribly cruel. You are taking away your cat's primary defence mechanism.

  3. no, its ok,  but declawing a cat is kinda like taking away your fingernails... its not good for them.

  4. No, not illegal, it is a surgical procedure performed by vets.

Many people do it to save their "precious" furniture.

I mean why should they get a cat if they're not prepared for cat qualities (aka CLAWS)?

  5. No, it's not illegal, but I personally feel it should not be done.

  6. De-Clawed cats are not illegal. Both of my cats are de-calwed and fixed. Most of the cats nowadays are de-clawed because it keeps them from destructing their home. I reccomend it, but it is whatever you believe in.

  7. No, it's not illegal so they wont take him away. But FYI, I worked at a vet's where they did declawing and it's absolutely disgusting. I had to help in the procedure and regretted it ever since. They slice their fingers open, pull the skin back, and cut the tips of them off (the BONES, people.) It would be like cutting our fingers off at the top joint to prevent our nails from growing any further. It's repulsive

  8. Illegal? No.

Horribly cruel? Oh yeah. Look up de-clawing on-line and see what they do to these poor creatures. They basically amputate their front feet at the first knuckle. Imagine having your fingers cut off at the first bend after your fingernail.

I have 2 cats, neither declawed. They have scratching posts and when their nails get too long and sharp I trim them with an animal claw trimmer. I have even used fingernail trimmers in a pinch.

When they were kittens, I would keep a squirt gun or spray bottle WITH PLAIN WATER (no vinegar, no ammonia, cats don't like to get wet, so water did the trick) in my living room, and if one of them was scratching at furniture, I'd spray them. They got the picture.

  9. NO?

  10. No declawing is not illegal i have 2 cats both declawed and fine

is not that painfull because they're unconsious when it happens

  11. No

  12. poor cat. well, illegal in my country of course!! uh, you know, even humans aren't aloud to do tattoo (in my country). i don't know in your country.

but, i don't think an animal control will take him away. just relax ok.

  13. no i don't think so

  14. It's illegal to have it done in some countries but I don't know of anywhere where it would be illegal to have a cat who someone else had declawed.  The people who had that done did the wrong thing, not you.  Don't worry.  You're giving him a great life, you have nothing to worry about.

  15. In the United States, the only place it is illegal to declaw is in West Hollywood, CA. - and there are no laws against owning a declawed cat. So don't worry, no one will take your kitty away for being declawed. :-)

These days, many vets recognize the cruelty of declawing, and will refuse to perform the surgery. Declawing is banned in many European countries and in Japan.

There is no excuse for declawing a cat. Ever.

People who declaw their cats are too lazy to train their cat (yes! it IS possible!) and/or keep their nails trimmed, which is painless for the cat. Declawing consists of severing bone and tendons in the tips of the cats paws. Even long after the surgery, cats can still be in pain and they have no way to tell you that. Declawing can also cause deformed bone regrowth and arthritis, which makes it excruciating for the cat to walk.

Wow, everyone who said declawing is cruel got a thumbs down. There's some ignorant people out there...

  16.   Please don't worry about animal control they are not the police.  They are only to happy that there's one less cat for them to worry about.

No, it's not illegal but should be.   I hate it as it leaves them with NO defense.  It hurts like h**l too!  My poor little cat pinkie is de-clawed she is so dainty and tiny.  Each time she jumps off something (bed etc.) it hurts,  years later.

Enjoy your kiddy and don't worry.

  17. I never heard of owning a declawed cat being illegal? Is it an inhumane thing to declaw a cat? Yes! but not illegal. The reason declawing is frown upon is because it's a horrible thing to do to a cat. Basically what they do is cut off all the tips of the cat's toes and toes to a cat are like fingers to you and I , would you like to run around with all the tips of your finger cut off? I don't think so? If you ever get another cat and it has nails then just learn how to trim it's nails. Here is a link about declawed cats you should read: http://www.sniksnak.com/cathealth/declaw...
